Slate Mountain is 6,980 feet high. This hike from the Slate Mountain Trailhead was around 12 miles. This is mostly a mountain bike trail (as are most around the Pocatello area). You can probably shorten the hike if you really want to by going straight up and down the west side of the mountain off-trail instead of going all the way around and up from the south. That section might almost double the hiking distance so it really depends on if you just want to get to the peak or you also like distance. Nice day though and the trail was great. I did get stopped by Rami from work who came up behind me on his bike. Pretty interesting that a guy from Boise and one from Twin Falls end up meeting in a trail in Pocatello.
