Pioneer Cabin

Because of forecasted bad weather and snow, I had decided to cancel the trip I had planned to hike up Hyndman Peak. What I did find close by though was the Pioneer Cabin loop. This looked like a nice hike that would still give me something to do on Saturday in the same general area, over by Ketchum, instead of having to drive another hour or so to get to the Borah area like the other hikes I have done. The loop was between 8 and 9 miles but pretty easy going compared to Borah and Leatherman. The area was really nice as well. I left at about 7:30 and got back to the car 4 hours later, having spent about 20-30 minutes at the cabin. From the cabin you can actually see Hyndman, Old Hyndman, and Cobb even from my pictures with the snow and low clouds. I will have to do that hike again in the summer on a nice clear day when the snow is gone to get some more good pictures. Since I made pretty good time I decided to go to the Hyndman trailhead and maybe go a little ways in just to get some more miles in, possibly stopping around where the snow started. Turns out I almost made it all the way up, stopping short about .3 miles from the top. More info about that on the other page.
